İsmet Kalkan was born in Kahramanmaraş in 1967. He completed his primary, secondary and high-school education in Osmaniye. He studied Arabic and Religious Sciences at Furkan and Eminiyye Colleges in Damascus, where he went to study Arabic between 1986 and 1988. İsmet Kalkan, who went into civil service as an Imam-Hatip in the Directorate of Religious Affairs in 1992, graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Konya Selçuk University in 2001 and the Konya Selçuk Graduate School of Theology in 2004, after which he was appointed to Afşin, Kahramanmaraş as a District Preacher. He was appointed to Uludere, Şırnak as a District Mufti in 2006 and to the Harput Religious Education Center in Elazığ as an Educator in 2007. In 2011, he was appointed to the Halil İbrahim Religious Education Center in Şanlıurfa with the same title. He earned his postgraduate title in the field of Islamic Law in the Department of Basic Islamic Sciences under the Institute of Social Sciences at Fırat University with his thesis titled "Travelling on the Effect of Namaz and Fasting Under the Changing Conditions" in 2011, and his doctorate title in the field of Islamic Law in the Department of Basic Islamic Sciences under the Institute of Social Sciences at Çukurova University with his thesis titled "The Edition Criticism and Assessment of the Work Titled el-Muâdil Written Up By Abdurrahîm el-Mar'aşî" in 2018. İsmet Kalkan, who has been serving as Assistant Professor and Deputy Dean in the field of Islamic Law in the Department of Basic Islamic Sciences under the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at Adıyaman University since October 8, 2018. İsmet Kalkan has a good command of Arabic. He is married and has four children.
