PhD Semih Sağır

He was born in Diyarbakır in 1993. At the age of 13, he completed his memorization of the Qur’an (ḥifẓ). He passed the Qur’an memorization exam administered by the Presidency of Religious Affairs and received a certificate with a grade of “good.” In 2007, after successfully passing the Secondary Education Transition Exam, he was admitted to Batman Anatolian High School. After studying there for two years, he transferred to Bitlis–Tatvan Anatolian High School and graduated in 2011. In the same year, he was admitted to the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University. Between 2013 and 2014, he received 10 months of English language education at Istanbul British Street Language Schools. In 2016, he graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology as a High Honor Student with a GPA of 3.68/4.00. After completing his undergraduate studies, he was accepted into a master’s program in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Division of Sociology of Religion, at the same university. In April 2017, he was appointed as a Research Assistant in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Division of Religious Studies, at Adıyaman University Faculty of Theology. In 2019, he completed his master’s degree with a thesis titled “Islam and Anarchism in Turkey: İhsan Eliaçık and His Followers,” written under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hafize Şule Albayrak. In 2025, he visited several countries on the African continent (Morocco, Kenya, and South Africa), conducting academic engagements and institutional observations. In 2026, he earned his PhD by completing his dissertation titled “Anarcho-Feminism and Religion in Turkey,” conducted at Marmara University Institute of Social Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hafize Şule Albayrak. His field of expertise and specific research interests include anarchism, feminism, and the relationship of these ideologies with religion.
