Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serdar SÖNMEZ was born in Balıkesir in 1982. He completed his secondary and high school education at Balıkesir Sırrı Yırcalı Anatolian High School. After graduating from Balıkesir University, Faculty of Science and Literature, Department of Biology in 2006, he got accepted to the Biology Department of Balıkesir University, Institute of Science. In 2008, he completed his master's thesis entitled "Ectinosomatidae (Crustacea:Copepoda:Harpacticoida) fauna of the Turkish Mediterranean coast". In the same year, he was appointed as a research assistant to Adıyaman University, Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Biology. In 2014, he completed his PhD thesis entitled "Taxonomic revision and zoogeography of the species of the Miraciidae (Crustacea, Copepoda, Harpacticoida) inhabiting in the mediolittoral zone of Turkish coasts" at Balıkesir University. Assoc. Prof. Dr Serdar Sönmez is working at Adıyaman University since 2014.
