Prof. Dr. Kocadaş was born in Samsun. He completed his primary and secondary education in Samsun. In 1993, he graduated from the Department of Sociology at İnönü University. In 1996, he received his master's degree in General Sociology and Methodology at the Department of Sociology at İnönü University with his thesis titled "Analysis of the Impact of Mass Media on Political Institutions". In 2003, he completed his doctoral studies in the same department at İnönü University with his thesis titled "Visual Media and Culture of Violence (The Effect of Visual Media on the Tendency Towards Violence of Secondary School Youth) - Application in Malatya Province -" and became a doctor.
On March 21, 1994, he worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of General Sociology and Methodology at İnönü University's Sociology Department, and as a Research Assistant Dr. from March 2003 to 2007. In January 2007, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Adıyaman University's Faculty of Education. In September 2007, he established the Department of Sociology at Adıyaman University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences and also ensured the establishment of the Departments of Philosophy, Psychology, and English Language and Literature in the same faculty. Between 2007 and 2011, he held many administrative positions, including Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Between 2014 and 2019... He served as a rector's advisor. Between 2020 and 2025, he served as the director of the Addiction Prevention and Research Center, which he helped establish. In addition, he has been the editor of the Adıyaman University Social Sciences Institute Journal since 2019. He also serves as the chairman of the "Social and Human Sciences Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Board," to which he was appointed on February 13, 2026.
His areas of expertise include the sociology of violence, suicide, sociological deviance and crime, sociology of institutions, sociology of communication, sociology of youth, addiction, suicide, earthquake studies, sociology of migration, history of sociology, history of Turkish sociology, and research methods in sociology. He has published numerous books, articles in national and international journals, and symposium papers related to these areas. He also serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for many journals, and as an editor for journals and books. In addition, he has given panels and conferences and participated in various media activities. He currently continues his work at Adıyaman University. Between 2023 and 2025, he successfully completed the EU project “Developing and Strengthening The Operational and Personal Capacities Of Public and Non-Public Organisation In Provision of Supporting Services For Refugees, Migrants And Immigrants Through Innovative Approaches,” which he led.
He currently works as the head of the sociology department, which he founded (2007).
